The individual digital data library

Why?
The research study discovered that many people feel lost in their own data. It discovered a significant lack of awareness for the individual digital data library combined with insufficient access to knowledge and tools on how to manage and backup consciously collected data.

What?
This master thesis provides a completely new view with the distribution model and the process model of the personal data library. With these at the core, further measures were taken to explore solutions for the current lack of awareness, information, and tools. The thesis led to a research project and a startup business in 2024.

How does the project of my design thesis work?
The design project focused on raising awareness for the concept of the "individual digital data library" over posters and a physical search game that provides a QR Code at the end. A website provides information and actionable tasks to level up a person’s data library. A paper prototype makes a future solution system tangible.

For whom?
The main target group are people that feel anxious about managing and navigating their data and are willing to invest time and energy into cleaning up their library. A survey with 138 participants showed that 28% fit the (previously defined) criteria of the primary persona.
